Sales Tax Holidays This Month

school-books-appleIf your household budget is dreading the damage that back-to-school shopping will wreak this month, you’ll be happy to know there may be a tax-free shopping day coming to a state near you. Time your trip to the mall right and you can save sales tax on clothing, shoes, school supplies, electronics, books, and more.

Here’s what’s happening and the limits per eligible item across the country:

  • Alabama (August 7-9): computers up to $750, clothing up to $100, school supplies up to $50, books up to $30.
  • Connecticut (August 16-22): clothing and shoes up to $300.
  • Iowa (August 7-8): clothing and shoes up to $100.
  • Louisiana (August 7-8): all purchases up to $2,500.
  • Missouri (August 7-9): computers up to $3,500, clothing up to $100, school supplies up to $50.
  • New Mexico (August 7-9): computers up to $1,000, clothing up to $100, school supplies up to $15.
  • North Carolina (August 7-9): computers up to $3,500, clothing up to $100, school supplies up to $100, sports equipment up to $50.
  • Oklahoma (August 7-9): clothing up to $100.
  • South Carolina (August 7-9): computers, school supplies, and clothing (no limit).
  • Tennessee (August 7-9): computers up to $1,500, clothing up to $100, school supplies up to $100.
  • Texas (August 21-23): clothing, backpacks and shoes up to $100.
  • Vermont (August 22): all purchases up to $2,000.
  • Virginia (August 7-9): clothing up to $100, school supplies up to $20.
